Here’s my son, Austin, holding a wombat.
The wombat is a large, heavyset, short-legged, somewhat bear-like marsupial, distantly related to the opposum and koala. It is a burrowing vegetarian, feeding nocturnally on roots, bark, and grasses. Although wombat burrows destroy fields and lawns, Australians seem to be oddly fond of the creature.
Don’t miss a visit to Wombat World, where you can see these indigenous animals up close.
